Ah, love. Nobody can do without it. That’s why The Cupid is the answer to the famous marketing question: how to make people fall in love with your product’.

Anyone who invites The Cupid into their life adds light, air, optimism, sometimes excitement and, above all, emotion. He’s always out to make you feel something. That daily dose of sentiment on your smartphone in the form of photos taken over the years? That’s down to him. Dating apps? Naturally.

The Cupid can be found in every aspect of a product or service. As long as you want to keep using it because it makes you feel good, he’s done his job well. What? Toxic? Making people addicted? The Cupid is unaware of any harm. After all, he just wants to spread love, doesn’t he?

Superpowers

  • Highlights the positive aspects of a service.
  • Is good at tapping into emotions and really makes an impact on your end user.
  • Has the potential to turn new customers into happy and loyal customers.

Kryptonite

  • The Netflix documentary *The Social Dilemma* explores the downside of *The Cupid*. Social media, in particular, is downright addictive and polarising, with toxic consequences in the form of fake news, disinformation and data trading.
  • The superpowers of The Cupid’ are frequently abused: for example, many dating apps are designed to keep users on them for as long as possible, rather than to forge lasting connections.

The Cupid in practice

Anything where sentiment takes centre stage, such as photo memories or your Spotify Year in Review. But his influence is just as evident in handwritten customer care cards or good, warm service in general.

Archenemy

None. Everyone loves The Cupid and The Cupid loves everyone.

Ally

He has a special bond with The Connector and The Artist: together, they create that feeling of being in love and connected. The Cashier’s till also benefits greatly from The Cupid: customers who fall in love with your brand buy more.

Summary

The Cupid has one of the most powerful superpowers: he can make people fall in love with your product or service and turn them into loyal customers. That is also his kryptonite: if not used properly, The Cupid can turn infatuation into addiction.
