You could think of The Cashier as the control card: she’s all about our own interests. And that’s what sets her apart from the other Heroes of Value, who are all about the extra value we can offer the customers. Just picture her sitting there, behind her till. She listens patiently to all the new plans and ideas. Then she starts busily calculating and jingling: costs, benefits, targets, KPIs… And this is quickly followed by a sobering monologue, beginning with the words: ‘That’s all well and good, but…’
Make no mistake: she’s certainly not always out to make a profit. What matters most to her are measurable results, expressed in KPIs. The Cashier is, in essence, a walking reality check. You can’t do without her, and you don’t want to do without her: that would mean unmet targets and being in the red.
Superpowers
- Cashier is thoughtful and can spot win-win situations and sales opportunities everywhere.
- Makes everything transparent and measurable.
- Money makes the world go round: a company’s vitality is always linked to money
- Can be ruthless: sometimes redundancies have to be made or other drastic decisions taken.
Kryptonite
- Party pooper: she can ruthlessly shatter your dreams.
- She has little appreciation for creativity, beauty and ideals: these are often the first things to go when budgets are cut.
- Often inflexible and conservative.
The Cashier in practice
She’s your payslip and your Christmas bonus. She’s in accounting software such as Exact, Twinfield and Yuki. But The Cashier is also about measurability and quality, such as the Net Promoter Score, Google Analytics and statistics on LinkedIn.
Archenemy
With The Idealist and The Artist, this sometimes leads to eye-rolling: their work is a bit harder to express in monetary terms. And according to The Cashier, their plans are often unfeasible or unscalable.
Ally
The Cupid is always nicely scalable, because love for a product or service makes one generous. The Coach is also a perfect match: he loves results and goals just as much.
Summary
She is all-powerful when it comes to survival: nothing comes for free. If you give her too little space, your entire business could go under and your success could come to a halt. However, if she takes irresponsible risks herself, in the most dystopian scenario she could bring the whole world crashing down in a devastating stock market crash.
